Herbert Aaron taught his son Henry "Hank" Aaron the importance of excellence, education, and patience. Henry would go on to hit 755 home runs over a 23-year career to become the major league's all-time home-run king. In the book Chasing the Dream, Henry commented that years of watching his father labor long and hard for his family taught him the value of patience and respect. These were traits that young Henry would emulate, especially later in his career as he faced persecution and racial hatred while nearing Babe Ruth's home-run record....Henry grew up in a close, nurturing family, where he was expected to behave, respect elders, cut firewood, and go to church on Sundays. Herbert and his wife, raised their children in a loving home with their greatest good in mind.
